Mary Anne Wylie, Board Chair
Mary Anne Wylie recently retired after over 46 years as a clinical nurse and clinical nurse manager at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She worked for nearly 10 years in the Department of Emergency Medicine before joining the Department of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry. There she worked with patients seeking treatment for serious mental illnesses and dementia and their families, as both family and patient dealt with the impact of these diagnoses on their daily lives. This included elderly people with mental illness and dementia and people with young onset dementia, dementia before the age of 65. She was inspired by how patients and families navigated these diagnoses and by her colleagues who believed treatment was much more than the medications or treatments one could give.
Mary Anne is from Buffalo, New York and has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Buffalo. She has a Master of Nursing in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Maryland. In her spare time, she is a beekeeper and likes to travel and cook and spend time with family and friends.
“My sons, Gill and Henry, were adopted from Korea and we have been involved in ASIA Families since its beginning. ASIA Families has been a place for my sons to learn about and develop pride in their Korean heritage and explore their identity. Our lives have been enriched by our connections with Grace, other adoptees and adoptive families, the many wonderful volunteers and the community of ASIA Families.
My work on the ASIA Families Board is motivated by my commitment to make sure ASIA Families is there in the future for any adoptee and any adoptive family who can benefit from our programs and our community.”
