“입양인 도운 일이 가장 행복” - Helping adoptees is the happiest thing
아시아 패밀리스(대표 송화강)가 지난 10일 코리언 컬쳐스쿨 봄학기 개강식을 갖고 수업에 들어갔다.
ASIA Families (represented by Grace Song) held an opening ceremony for the Korean Culture School Spring Semester on the 10th and started classes.
이번 학기에는 양부모 51명, 학생 50명, 봉사자 32명 등 총 133명이 등록했다.
메릴랜드 락빌에 소재한 제일장로교회(이상복 목사)에서 열린 개강식은 아시아 패밀리스 이사장인 메리앤 와일리 이사장의 축사, 고등학생들로 구성된 셀라아트 공연단(김정희 원장)의 해금과 모듬북 축하공연 등으로 진행됐다.
This semester, a total of 133 people registered, including 51 adoptive parents, 50 students, and 32 volunteers. The opening ceremony, held at the First Korean Presbyterian Church in Rockville, Maryland (Pastor Sang-bok Lee), featured a congratulatory speech by Mary Ann Wiley, chairman of Asia Families, as well as performances by the Selah Art composed of high school students (Director Chunghee Kim) playing the haegum and Korean drums.
와일리 이사장과 송화강 대표는 지난 20여년간 입양인들을 위해 물심양면으로 헌신하며 입양인들에게 많은 존경을 받고있는 김찬수 고문에게 대통령 봉사상(동상)을 수여했다.
김찬수 고문은 “남편인 노만 홀리 박사가 지병으로 참석하지 못해 아쉽다. 남편과 여러 후원자들 덕분에 입양인들 돕는 일을 오래 할 수 있었다. 이 자리를 빌어 후원자들에게 감사를 표한다”며 “지금까지 살면서 코리언 컬쳐스쿨을 후원하고 입양인을 도운 일이 가장 행복했다”고 말했다.
Board Chair, Mary Anne Wylie and Executive director. Grace Song,presented the Presidential Volunteer Award (Bronze medal) to Advisor Chansoo Holly, who has dedicated herself to Korean adoptees for over 20 years, receiving much respect from adoptees.
Advisor Chansoo Holly expressed regret that her husband, Dr. Norman Holly, could not attend due to illness, but thanked her husband and other donors, for enabling her to assist adoptees for a long time. She said, "Supporting Korean Culture School and helping adoptees have been the most fulfilling tasks of my life."
이날 학생들은 설날 전통문화에 대해 배웠으며, 양부모들은 박지택 한지예술가와 함께 갑진년 용의 해 기념으로 한국예술 작품에 드러난 용의 이미지와 역사에 대한 강의 및 한지로 직접 용을 표현해 보는 시간을 가졌다.
On that day, students learned about traditional Lunar New Year culture, while adoptive parents had a lecture on the image and history of dragons depicted in Korean art to commemorate the Year of the Dragon with artist Ji-taek Park, followed by a session where they expressed dragons directly using hanji (traditional Korean paper).
한인 입양인들을 꾸준히 후원해 온 리브라더스(이라빈 대표)는 한국과자와 음료를 후원했으며, 김찬수 고문은 정성껏 과자를 포장해 학생들에게 선물로 나누어 주면서 행복한 설 기분을 전했다.
Lee Brothers (represented by Robin Lee), which has been consistently supporting Korean adoptees, sponsored Korean snacks and drinks, while Advisor Chan-soo Holly meticulously packed the snacks and distributed them as gifts to students, spreading the joyous atmosphere of the Lunar New Year.
컬쳐스쿨은 대한민국 교육부의 지원을 받아 운영되고 있다. 아시아 패밀리스는 올 여름 한국에 50여명의 입양인 및 입양가족들과 함께 한국모국방문 행사(6월 18일-28일), 2박 3일간의 ‘쌀캠프’ 등을 준비하고 있다.
Korean Culture School is operated with support from the South Korean Ministry of Education. Asia Families is also planning a Korea Bridge tour with around 50 adoptees and their families (June 18-28) and a "Camp Rice” event in the summer.
