ASIA Families Seeks a Volunteer Communications Coordinator

ASIA Families is seeking to fill the position of Communications Coordinator. This is a volunteer role. We are interested in candidates who can bring a high level of expertise to help us continue to advance our mission to support Korean adoptees and their families. Candidates may be adult adoptees, adoptive parents, or other adult members of the ASIA Families community. We would also welcome someone new who is interested in bringing their energy and communications skills to our organization and help us continue to reach our current community members as well as find new ways to expand our reach to others.

Position Description

ASIA Families is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential services to Korean adoptees and their families. Our workforce is comprised of volunteers who offer their time, skills, and talents to accomplish this mission.  Our volunteers include professionals from many walks of life, including adult adoptees, adults from the Korean community, and family members of adoptees. The beneficiaries of our programs and services are primarily adopted Korean children and their families as well as adult Korean adoptees. ASIA Families just celebrated its 10th anniversary last year. We have used traditional communication tools in the past and are looking to continue to expand our presence on social media platforms. We are excited about our recent refresh of our website and look forward to continuing to grow it into a valuable resource for Korean adoptees, their families, and those interested in learning more about the Korean adoptee experience. 

ASIA Families seeks an individual to take on the position of Communications Coordinator as we continue to maintain many popular programs as well as become a more formal organization and explore new avenues for programs and communications. We seek an individual who understands both how to use traditional and emerging vehicles for communicating with a wide-range of audiences. Our audiences include members with a wide level of diversity in cultural backgrounds, age, and sensitivity to the world of adoption. We are excited to have an individual join the leadership and administrative team who is willing to bring new ideas to the table and take an active role in leading the communication activities of our organization. 

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Executive Director to develop content and direct creative execution to provide a consistent, targeted, and impactful message.

  • Builds and maintains solid partnerships with the Board of Directors to better develop, coordinate, direct, and facilitate strategic communications designed to meet ASIA Families’ goals.

  • Supports development of surveys from participants in ASIA Families programs to obtain feedback on audience expectations. Feedback assists in driving messaging. 

  • Designs campaigns to target specific audiences, placing an emphasis on campaign performance to help with recommendations for future programs.

  • Provides guidance to two in-house communication volunteers on the website design and social media. 

  • Contributes ideas for new programs, researching and recommending innovative branding techniques.

  • Identifies and presents opportunities for consistency in messaging and customer experience across communication vehicles and audiences. 

  • Stays informed of developments in the field of marketing and communications within the industry to foster ideas and innovation.

Required Skills:

  • Strong, versatile writing and editing skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Possesses a sense of urgency and is self-motivated and detail-minded

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships

  • Good verbal presentation, group dynamic, and facilitation skills

  • Proactive approach in resolving problems and issues

Time Commitment: 

This is a volunteer position. It is anticipated that the responsibilities and time commitment will range from 2 to 4 hours a week. The timing may vary each month based on upcoming programming and scheduled communications activities.
